Project
Albury TAFE Connect Learning Common
Prize
Winner

This project is a major extension to the Connected Learning Common building. Refurbishment of the existing building interior and façade also formed part of the works. Internally, tiered seating and a fully glazed void overlooking an auditorium/teaching space was a major feature. Work was completed in a fully operational TAFE campus with restricted access and limited space. Safety had priority with crane, truck and materials movements being escorted on campus at all times.
The design includes irregular angles and corners with a variety of finishes that are skillfully managed. Internal junctions between old and new are merged with new finishes throughout. The existing computer IT laboratory and classrooms remained operational with a dust-free environment. Noise was carefully managed.
The Mechanical Co Multi-Gen system included in the building plant runs on natural gas and is the first of its type in the region. It enables TAFE to benefit from considerable green star initiatives by reducing power costs for the entire campus.
The builder rescheduled works, and was responsible for instigating a number of construction alternatives, to ensure the project was complete for the term 1 TAFE classes.
The project has been completed to an excellent standard.
