The Ponds Shopping Centre was a tendered design and construct project of a new 18,000m2 shopping centre, consisting of a 4000m2 Woolworths supermarket, 27 speciality stores, two kiosks and basement car parking for 250 cars and 100 cars on grade. It is Australia’s first and only 6-Star Green Star Retail Centre Design v1 2015 shopping centre.
The project has reintroduced a more traditional “High Street” feel to a neighbourhood shopping complex and moved away from the more traditional enclosed mall.
An innovated approach to the design and construct process in conjunction with the architect has resulted in many features that enhance the structure and provide a high-quality finish and environment for the local community.
With a construction footprint that extends to three boundaries, one of which was a public school, and the fourth abutting the adjacent Community Centre carpark, construction methodology and a rational safety approach were mandatory to underpinning the success of the project.
The project team has delivered a high-quality product, meeting a tight construction program, despite extreme inclement weather, and enabled all tenants to complete fitouts within a safe and harmonious working environment for all involved.
