The builder undertook the construction of phase 1 (of 4) of the data centre located in Western Sydney on a redeveloped site of 64,000m2. The building was built over 12,000sqm (GFA) in just 44 weeks. The two-storey data centre (phase 1) is comprised of eight data halls, boasting 20MW of capacity cooled by 20 CRAC (Computer Room Air-Conditioning) units per hall. The structural roof top plant room is designed to house approximately 20 mechanical chiller units and associated services. This technical building spans 4,800m2 over two stories and is located adjacent to the main data halls. This building facilitates the amenities and tenant areas for current and future use including Meet Me Rooms and Communication Rooms. The building houses three lifts (goods and passenger) and the external works include two mezzanine structures housing multiple power train units, transformers and diesel backup generators to power phase 1 of the facility. Due to the short timeframe for delivery, the builder implemented innovative construction techniques including precast concrete panels, factory-produced prefabricated pipework, traffic management and logistic plans for the timely delivery and installation of all plant and equipment, and a significant amount of client-supplied specialised equipment. On a fortnightly basis throughout the life of the project, the builder brought together the principals and leaders from various trades that were integral to delivering the project. During these meetings, the group problem-solved and co-ordinated the installation of complex items within a large building during construction to ensure successful completion.
