The contract for preliminary works is suitable for a pre-construction scope of works. 

The type of work the contract can be used for includes:

• Design work
• Applying for Council Approval
• Estimating and quoting
• Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants
• Pre-construction site inspections
• Demolition

The work carried out under the contract for preliminary works cannot include any "residential building work" within the meaning of the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW). 

Any payment received under the contract for preliminary works must be for the pre-construction scope and must not be a deposit for residential building works.

The contract provides for either a fixed contract price or for claims based on an hourly rate, together with third-party costs incurred.
