Rick Simmons - One Up Building

Rick Simmons, co-owner and managing director of One Up Building, has a deep love of building and good design, and is passionate about every project that he and his business partner, Scott Sommerville, take on. 

For this licensed builder and carpenter, building is in his blood, and at 40, Rick’s level of experience and master builder professionalism is evident in the long list of high-end luxury homes that he has built. 

Projects such as Gordon Avenue, Coogee; Kardina Street, Mosman; Wentworth Avenue, Point Piper; Rick’s own home in Caringbah; and the Knox Street, Clovelly project, featured on Grand Designs Australia, demonstrates the level of master builder quality and tradesmanship that Rick is renowned for. 

Rick gained his early experience working alongside his mentors in luxury home construction and management in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The business that he has built with Scott has a reputation for exceptional attention to detail, and an ability to realise an architect and client’s vision, without compromising on design integrity. 

Rick’s key role in One Up Building is project management, communicating with clients and stakeholders to ensure the smooth transition between each stage of the project. He has an eye for detail, and takes great pride in ensuring that each project meets One Up Building’s own rigorous standards for quality and excellence by personally overseeing material selection and inspecting the workmanship at every stage of the project.

2019 Judges’ stated that this talented young build overcame many challenges on his winning project, from the restricted access of the site to the complexity in the use of different materials. These challenges were achieved with outstanding workmanship to produce an excellent finish.
