The Central Terrace Building is an A-grade commercial office building of 10,700 gross floor area over nine levels which has achieved a 5 Star Green rating and a 5 Star NABERS rating. The project is situated within the car park area of Sydney’s International Airport providing the builder with numerous challenges of materials handling and public safety. Like all of this year’s projects it suffered with inclement weather but by working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week the project was handed over 2 months early.
The eastern elevation façade comprises of a unitised aluminium and glass curtain wall system with panel sizes of 4200mm by 3600mm by one tonne. A highlight of the design is the five sets of raked feature columns. These were formed insitu off form concrete in a “V” shape. The columns support the entire eastern section of the building. These were initially designed to be structural steel with composite aluminium cladding to form the distinctive raking and twisting “V” shape, at the clients request this was changed to class 2 off form concrete.
