This project, comprising the construction of a new A-grade commercial office building of 10,700m2 gross floor area over a nine-storey commercial office building is located at Sydney International Airport.
The base building was designed to achieve a minimum of 4.5 star NABERS rating and a 5 Star Green Star Office Design rating.
Safety in Design concepts were considered from the ‘get go’, with the project team developing and then implementing a number of strategies and systems to ‘design out’ some of the construction risks.
From the simple deployment of wheel stops on all levels to eliminate the potential risks associated with scissor lifts driven into the perimeter edge protection, the revised edge protection systems used to prevent personnel falling and the redesigned method for the installation of the façade meant that the project team had eliminated the need for a safety harness system and significantly reduced the risks of falls, thus providing an easier and safer working environment for the workers onsite.
