Best Practice Constructions Pty Ltd won at the tender the design and construct contract for the Tamworth Regional Council to build the Tamworth Regional Youth Centre. The centre was built at Coledale to meet the infrastructure and social needs of the Coledale community – a low-socio-economic region of Tamworth.
The tender was based on architectural design by Kate Isaacs of Nicholas Associates Architects Pty Ltd for the Tamworth Regional Council. The design and contract included design of structure and all building services except electrical services (including CCTV, data and access control).
Extensive face brickwork was used internally and externally, which has been laid to a very high standard.
The project, being located in a region with a much higher than average youth unemployment, required 24-hour on-site surveillance by building staff, council youth officers and community members. On-site incidences were only minor and kept to a minimum by this surveillance.
No high-quality materials were used in this building, however, the building has been completed throughout to an excellent standard of workmanship including the builders’ alternative flooring of using recycled brushbox timber flooring in the auditorium.
This project, completed in late February 2015, has been very quickly accepted by the youth in Coledale and numerous community groups, who all use the centre on a regular basis.
Congratulations to Best Practice Constructions and its construction team for providing a very good building that is servicing the needs of the Coledale community, on a very low budget.
