North Sydney railway station, built in 1932 has 54,000 passenger movements per day; an upgrade was required to bring it into line with current statutory requirements.
This was a most difficult project because of the train and passenger movements, the station had to remain in use at all times.  The works included expanded concourse areas, new lifts and escalators, platform upgrade, enhanced station safety and security, a larger ticket office and ticket barriers and a raised concourse roof and new facade.
The work took two and a half years.
