The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is designed to provide care for anyone affected by cancer, their families and supporters. Research and education is strongly emphasised. The building is 50m high and 100m long. With Camperdown streets too narrow for semi-trailers, the site was fully occupied by the building footprint and storage and delivery needed careful management. There are 28 façade types to the building as well as impressive internal light filled atriums. The tri-generation services system works as a standby and a backup generator.
An interim occupation certificate was achieved for oncology, five months before the building handover. The challenges of fire, plant and lift services to these spaces were successfully addressed.
The differing facades, the intricate services installation and finishes required detailed planning and execution with finishes, both internal and external to a high finish.
