This project entails the construction of a world leading high performance sports, medicine, education and recovery centre. This state-of-the-art facility serves as a centre for sports science and allied health offering consulting facilities equipped with the latest in medical technology offering top tier treatment to athletes and the broader community. The facilities include multi-purpose high strength & conditioning facility, aquatic recovery facilities, turf and synthetic fields to international standards, accommodation building & facilities, neighbourhood health hub offering medical services to the community, sports medicine clinic, physical literacy area -improving health through movement, physiology laboratories, biomechanics laboratory and a 60m indoor running track plus an auditorium and function space and café. The façade of the main building has a unique GRC multi-faceted façade which is fixed to a prefabricated Frametek panelised system. This approach to the façade allowed it to be taken off the critical path by way of providing the water barrier incorporated in the Frametek system. This allowed the GRC panels to be clipped into a bracket system, in a relatively simple operation. Significant planning and 3D modelling allowed this to be achieved to the precise accuracy required. Construction of the Analysis Track Tunnel required specialist consideration when incorporating service requirements including mechanical ventilation, electrical and athlete tracking cameras. The overall building layout is based on many multi radiused curves inside and out. This introduced an increased level of complexity at all stages of the construction and finishes including services joinery and floor finishes. The Project also incorporated significant site works involving parking areas, outdoor fields (both synthetic and natural grass) were completed through one of Sydney wettest periods on record in addition to the discovery of 20,000m3 of asbestos contaminated material resulting in significant time and cost pressures for the Project. Buildcorp has achieved a quality project because of their ability to be flexible and innovative during the design and construction phases in order to respond to site conditions and complexities within this project.
