570 George St Sydney was a purpose-built building for Energy Australia over 50 years ago. A significant upgrade was carried out in three stages.
The first stage involved the internal refurbishment of all floors, plant rooms and risers to meet current Building Code of Australia standards.
The second stage focused on the façade upgrade and remediation of the structure involving ground floor upgrades of the lobby and public domain. Detailed work included full services upgrade, fully scaffolded risers, and fire rating upgraded. The façade works involved removing the aluminium composite panel overclad system installed in the 80’s. Removal of these panels revealed a concrete structure riddled with concrete cancer. The existing windows were retained and repaired as necessary and ten mast climbers were setup to facilitate these works, together with a new aluminium cladding system.
The third stage was the Retail & Public Domain Works which included ground floor façade replacement, internal strip out, cold shell installation of services and attention to heritage items in the lobby, new façade stone finishes and new pathway works to streets.
The completed standard of finish was high, and the management processes adopted provided a successful outcome.
