Building E7A consisted of 2 existing buildings, built in the 60’s and 70’s in the central area of the University Campus, works combined the buildings into a new space for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. There was a complete strip out of the building, demolition and rebuild of the lifts and core.
Stakeholder management was considered important and included design and performance briefs that allowed both an understanding of the project and the objectives of the University as a whole. There was constant communication between the University and Consultants.
Demolition was reviewed to ensure site safety. Exam times and critical University activities were included in construction programming. Soundproofing of hoardings assisted in minimizing noise and dust benchmark sound levels were established.
Existing services were identified and audited to ensure minimum disruptions to existing services. Traffic management essential to ensure the safety of staff students and general public. 
The refurbished building includes in slab heating via gas hot water. The new Atrium indoor air temperature is controlled by a mixed mode system with part air conditioning with solar stack chimneys and roof top motorized smoke relief vent top  assist incooling the space with minimum energy consumption.
Building E7A has set a new high standard for future projects at Macquarie University.
