Judges, when rating display home entries, place significant importance on how readily adaptable the home is to suit multiple orientations, shapes and slopes of blocks. The goal of the Denman 257 was simple, and that was to create a striking family home that would cater for sloping land and provide access to the coveted winter sun to at least three sides of the home which is not dependent on the orientation of the owner’s individual block of land.
The decision to create and display this home at Googong, a rapidly growing township just out of the ACT, was inspired by the typical block of land in the ACT and local Googong area, which tends to be more sloping than other growth areas.
When walking through the Denman 257 it’s easy to forget this is a home designed for sloping blocks of land as its initial feel is that of a typical double-storey home. However, the design is in fact far from typical and reflects an elegant aesthetic and liveability, making it the ultimate family home.
