The existing building at 80 Albion Street, Surry Hills was a Victorian, Gothic-style church that had been de-consecrated and was in a shabby condition. The building has been stripped out, the asbestos linings have been removed, the rising damp has been addressed and it has been completely refurbished as offices for an architectural company on the upper floor and as general open-plan offices on the lower floor. The building has a heritage listing and the exterior has been carefully restored. The biggest surprise though is the light and airy interior that provides excellent working conditions for around 30 architects and support staff while preserving the original character of the church. Calida Projects has achieved an excellent restoration and adaptive re-use of a heritage building.
