Level 10 of the Scottish House building located on Bridge Steet Sydney underwent a major refurbishment and services upgrade. The work involved the demolition of the roof structure to construct a new zinc roof, with remedial works required to a heritage parapet.
From a technical aspect the construction difficulties were extensive, and maintaining general functionality of the building was necessary. Major structural steel works were required for the new curved sections of the roof and a cantilevered scaffold was required for the perimeter and core of the building. The curved profile was carried through to the interiors of the building with high end finishes achieving a premium finish.
The project is in a major CBD street which further complicated the access issues. A tower crane had to be erected on the roof, and roof replacement was carried out during a record inclement weather period in Sydney.
The works were completed in a short time frame considering the complexities of each phase, and with the general quality of finishes being of a very high standard. The project was well executed under difficult conditions while working in an occupied building and dealing with the problems as the works progressed.
This submission is a very worthy winner of the category.
