The Sydney East Data Centre (Stage 1) adjoins the existing Global Switch data centre in the Government Printing Offices. The new centre will provide highly resilient technical space and power solutions to its customers. 
Global Switch awarded Cockram Construction a design and construct contract based on 70 per cent completed design documentation that Cockram Construction had to verify and complete all detailed design and coordination of all services. This was a JV with M+W Group (the conditioning contractor). 
The new six-storey data centre offers 12,500m2 of world-class critical infrastructure services.
Materials handling was complicated due to the close proximity to the existing Global Switch west facility and the Western Distributor Motorway. It was only possible to install one tower crane that operated non-stop throughout the full working day – this necessitated two crane crews and the provision of a dual man and materials hoist. 
The exceedingly complicated services were installed to a very high standard. 
The project is a leading example of an environmentally sustainable data centre and has achieved an Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Rating. 
The project was completed in 103 weeks with exceedingly complex services. The services and building have been finished to a very high standard. Client satisfaction was achieved throughout the delivery process with program timeframes and budget being achieved.
