CPB Contractors worked with the City of Sydney to design and construct the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre. This intricate project is located on a 7,475m2 site 7 km form the CBD.
The facility comprises a 50m heated outdoor pool, a 25m indoor pool with movable floor, a hydrotherapy pool and a water playground facility. The pool hall has the longest free spanning mass glulam timber beams in Australia being 36m in length.
The facility also includes a full health fitness centre, outdoor training gym, a FIFA certified multi-purpose synthetic sports playing field, creche and café. 
The facility holds a 5 Star Green Star rating for Design and is working towards the As-built certification.
The Indoor pool area incorporates a mechanical open balance system of ventilation that eliminates condensation and odour to the internal areas.
The site was heavily contaminated with asbestos contained material, hydrocarbons and lead. These were discovered during the demolition of the existing slab on ground. This resulted in extensive investigation and instigating a high level monitoring throughout the earthworks phase including, air monitoring, asbestos supervisors, dust suppression etc to maintain the legislative requirements. This resulted in a redesign of the foundation system.
A number of initiatives were instigated by CPB to resolve erection issues including incorporation handrails on the glulam beams prior to erection, revised design to high level service corridors to eliminated confined space issues, to mention just a few. BIM modelling was utilized to review design to ensure the complexities of the detail design were resolved in advance of the construction phase.
The project was well managed and completed the high standard of finish.
