The Wynyard Walk project connects Wynyard Station Concourse to Shelley Street Barangaroo with a world class pedestrian link consisting of:-
•    A new tunnel with underpinning works under Railway House structural basement.
•    Demolition of existing buildings, a new multi-storey building above and below ground forming the western entrance to Wynyard Station from Clarence Street with direct access to the station concourse.
•    A new 3.5m-high and 9m-wide pedestrian tunnel approximately 110m long providing a grade separated link from Clarence Street entrance building under Clarence, Margaret and Kent Streets to Napoleon Plaza.
•    A pedestrian plaza at the Napoleon Street node, bounded by Sussex Street with, Westpac Plaza, Kent and Napoleon Streets, which connects Wynyard Walk tunnel and the bridge component.
•    A new 6m wide pedestrian bridge and escalators over Sussex Street providing a grade-separated connection between Napoleon Street and Shelley Street.
Innumerable difficulties arose during the construction of this project related to poor ground conditions, geological faults, excavation/underpinning under 1932 heritage building adjacent to a live rail line, complex underground services relocations including the re-design of a major tunnel section to accommodate an unknown major Sydney optic fibre cable duct.
The Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) issued certification that the project achieved a Commended Design Rating - only the second project in NSW to achieve this sustainability rating for an infrastructure project.
The project team overcame the difficulties with innovative engineering solutions and completed the project to the highest standard of finishes to produce a world class pedestrian link that demonstrates the engineering skill and experience of the contractor’s project team to work co-operatively with the Client, Building Owners, Local Residents and Authorities. Under extreme constraints and working conditions the completed project is a credit to the whole design and construction team.
