This small, hands-on, family-owned business firstly had to demolish the existing dilapidated structures on the 285m² property fronting Brown Street, Newtown. A common problem throughout was the lack of room for materials, parking space for subcontractors, access for vehicles delivering materials to the site and manoeuvring through the narrow streets of inner-city Newtown to the “no through road” construction site. Sydney City Council, in maintaining its policy of minimising or eliminating truck movements through the city, did not grant the site a construction zone. The builders had to think outside the square and did so to overcome the access problems.

The builders have presented a fresh, vibrant townhouse development with a contemporary feel. Internally, the blackbutt polished timber flooring and the two-tone ceramic bathroom tiles inject a fresh, clean image. The polyurethane kitchen and laundry with glass splashbacks along with the Caesarstone benchtops throughout help to project further this image. The building is modern, compact and well planned and complemented by excellent landscaping.

This project has overcome all the construction problems from start to finish and is a credit to the builder’s skill and ingenuity.
