This project is part of the re-development of the first Commonwealth Bank - the iconic “money box”. Works were to create retail spaces within the ground floor banking chamber. Tenancy walls were installed to reflect the heritage elements of the banking chamber. Heritage items such as the old hydraulic ram lift were removed and retained and displayed on site. A new lift was installed with features and finishes sympathetic to the heritage character of the space. Concealed services for mechanical and fire were built into the fitout and concealed within floors, walls and ceilings with care and ingenuity. The lower floor vaults were modified to suit tenancy storage, while maintaining the vault doors and original layout. Patina brass treatment of 5m-high internal partitions and the lift, within a limited time frame, was a notable achievement on this well-built project.
