This house offers an affordable, sustainable dwelling which has the potential of reducing waste and using predominantly Australian-made recyclable materials as well as integrating environmentally friendly principles during the entire building process.
The concept was a pre-manufactured hybrid system of housing employing flatpack and modular design methodologies. The main aim of the construction process was to deliver a house that required no wet trades to enter the site, meaning that only carpenters and labourers were used to erect and install the panels and a plumber and electrician to connect the pre-run services.
The strong and relatively light wall sheeting is a board which is produced from a waste product. The paint system was a two-part water-based paint which produced an extremely durable and beautiful flat finish.
This house was a first of its type and after the specialised trades had carried out their work in a controlled factory environment, it only took eight weeks on site to complete.
The judges felt the builder is to be commended for not only thinking outside traditional building methods but for putting his thoughts into practice.
