Prevention is better than a cure. That is definitely the case with this submission. Redesigning the designers design takes some doing, getting the clients approval is what counts. On this occasion FDC succeeded in both. By devising a ladder beam scaffold platform that fills an 18M void surrounding an oscillating staircase in orientation allowed trades access the staircase and void edges without fear of falling as working at heights had been eliminated. Not to be deterred FDC again redesigned the methodology proposed to construct a lecture theatre. By building a steel structure retrospectively within the space the theatre was built out of sequence and introduced new methodologies actually reducing costs and improved efficiency, all in a safer way.
