One of the most recognized landmarks in Sydney’s inner west, the White Bay Power Station has been brought back to life after lying dormant for 40 years. The building/precinct has been repositioned as an art and cultural facility capable of hosting such exhibitions & programs like the 24th Biennale of Sydney. The overall project was initially divided into 2 packages 1B & 2 which comprised works such as, hazardous material removal & encapsulation, structural steel & metal repairs, roof repairs, painting, services upgrades, waterproofing, concrete and masonry repairs & stormwater upgrades. Following this package 3 was awarded to bring the Turbine Hall, Boiler House & external forecourt up to a standard where they could be safely used by the public whilst accessing events & exhibitions. The construction activities completed by the FDC construction team were many and varied with additional works & sequencing changes necessary, as more of the original structure was exposed. The enthusiastic site team has proudly achieved an excellent result with the adaptation & restoration of this unusual & historic building.
