The thirty-three (33) research laboratories span 2,700sqm over the three floors which have been purpose designed to suit various research themes and to cater for user specific needs. The fitout was undertaken in an operational facility and caters for research into Biomolecular and Cellular, Food, and Water Resources & Environment. They contain Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) enabled facilities, numerous fume cupboards (46 in total), a variety of specialty laboratory gases and chemically resistant laboratory joinery. Access and egress were strictly controlled whilst ensuring any services disruptions did not adversely impact the operational teaching laboratories on levels 2 and 4 or the operational sensitive research laboratory on level 6. Heavy services congestion and hazardous gases led to much of the gas distribution pipework to be exposed for future inspection and maintenance. Custom 3D printed gas mounts suitable for Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) cleaning requirements were developed. Each bracket suited the size and quantity of pipes at its location with future provision “lanes” included should additional hazardous gases be installed. FDC overcame significant challenges during the course of the fitout by detailed consultation, planning and coordination. FDC has delivered a quality fitout to a satisfied client.
