The University of Sydney project included the construction of a new 9000m2 (FASS) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences building accommodating multiple teaching spaces, lecture theatres, staff offices, amenities and dedicated student/staff meeting areas, plus the 1000m2 heritage refurbishment of the 101-year-old RD Watt building.  Key design features in the FASS building are the impressive internal atrium staircase over six floors and the building façade. This facade is predominantly curtain wall with bronze Sefar interstitial mesh laminated glass that creates a shimmering bronze effect that changes appearance under different light conditions throughout the day.  The FASS building and the RD Watt refurbishment presented a wide range of challenges ranging from difficult site conditions to the complex design components and unique façade.   The innovations developed through the course of the project allowed FDC to deliver the project to a high-quality standard while exceeding the long-term environmental sustainability of the building.
