The IKEA Distribution Warehouse covers an overall site of 125,000sqm with a building footprint of 70,00sqm. There are 58,000sqm of conventional low bay warehouse, 12,000sqm of high bay, fully automated storage and retrieval system, 79 loading docks, 1500sqm of office space and canteen, 35,000sqm of external concrete pavement, 10,000sqm of landscaping and parking for 262 cars.
The high bay warehouse has a ridge height of 35m while the low bay is 8.9m high. The vertical steel members to the high bay, due to transportation restrictions, were erected in two 17.5m pieces. The southern low bay roof supports 4,500sqm of photovoltaic (solar) system. Due to time restrictions, the trade packages were divided into multiple packages, with the warehouse areas being constructed from the outer perimeter (low bay) to the inner areas being the high bay warehouse. The extensive stormwater system for such a site comprised 1.8km of in-ground conventional stormwater drainage system and a 225m long bio retention basin. This very large project required detailed planning and co-ordination by the FDC team to incorporate the extensive Client ordered equipment, the multitude of “flat pack” items to be assembled and the changes and details that were made during construction. This impressive facility delivers a quality product for the client.
