The G Brothers Mercedes project was a two stage Design and Construct contract located at 43 – 47 Bassett Street, corner of Pittwater Road, Mona Vale. 
Stage 1 – Pre Owned Vehicle (POV) Showroom consisted of demolition of an old workshop building and utilising the rear portion of the remaining structure to house the new showroom. A large steel awning, shop front glazing, new internal and external hardstand slabs and pavers were added.
Stage 2 – New car Showroom, once the POV was completed, G Brothers were relocated temporarily from their 25 year old showroom into the new POV showroom. This provided complete access for FDC to take ownership of the site and demolish the old showroom.
The existing concrete slabs on ground were retained where possible and locally cut out for screw plies and services. The Mercedes Benz design brief included circular steel columns from ground to roof, façade of a 250mm single glazed aluminium suite, Alpolic cladding and painted precast concrete walls.
Difficulties arose during the construction of this project related to the retention of much of the existing structure and its modification to suit the client’s requirements. Further delays and difficulties arose with the Stage 2 DA Approval being lack of access across Council Land and the requirement to underground the Power Lines.
The project team overcame the difficulties with simple but innovative solutions, such as the location of the car lift in the most prominent position but within a glass shaft with a polished rendered feature wall. The fine refined level of detail of all the workmanship is evident throughout the buildings and has met the owner’s high standards and expectation.
The project was completed on time and on budget whilst the owners were able to continue operating and FDC had nil LTi’s.
