The project involved the demolition of the existing Surf Life Saving Club building, the public amenities block and the surrounding landscape and hardstands in preparation for the construction of the Surf Life Saving Club. 
The project required an open approach between all stakeholders to achieve the complex bespoke design. Set within a nature reserve with numerous complexities, multiple workshops were required to ensure construction progressed, without impact to the design. Even in the face of COVID-19, and unusually wet weather events, a high-quality product was achieved.
The proximity to the open surf created challenges to ensure the building would withstand the weather and corrosion from the salt water. The issues were overcome by the introduction of an inverted timber roof, special door connections with a bi-fold system, and Tectiva façade panelling.
Other thoughtful elements include a permeable paving design, precast artwork panels installed in off-form concrete benches and imported glass for the Raico glazing with inbuilt tolerances.
Where the raked ceilings met the glazing system, infill timbers were installed to create an illusion that the frames matched the incline of the roof.
The whole project has been exceptionally well constructed in a very tight time frame during a particularly difficult period for the whole industry, beach use was unimpeded, with nil accidents recorded and minimal complaints. 
The project has been a huge success for all parties with the local community receiving an outstanding new facility.
