Set on a difficult corner site in the older Sydney suburb of Dulwich Hill this entry is a first class example of the replacement of traditional and dated dwellings with a contemporary structure and finishes whilst respecting the form, scale and building fabric of the neighbourhood. The concrete column and beam structure with quality bricklaying stamps the street façade with a strong feeling of quality construction. The sturdy volume of mass has reduced the need for heating and cooling and reduced the household’s energy consumption and ongoing environmental impact. The placement of windows and doors has facilitated the use of cool summer breezes in summer and natural solar heating in winter. Internally the judges were impressed with the quality of finishes.
