The ACU project was undertaken in response to the requirements in providing off street parking for the staff and student population. The design was to reuse the area taken up by an existing football field and concurrently redevelop and upgrade sporting facilities, whilst creating a 304-space basement car park underneath the playing surface.
Complexities in the design proved challenging for the HY collaborative team. The roof of the car park was constructed as a FIFA rated synthetic football field and a new hydraulically operated cricket pitch, which meant the field can be switched between cricket and football without compromising the safety and standard of play either sport.
