Patrick Port Botany Redevelopment

Winner

The basis of the innovation on the Patrick Port Botany Redevelopment was in Control Tower construction. The solution eliminated prospective dangerous work at heights and took the use of prefabrication to a new level.
There were many conferences, brainstorming and detailed planning by all members of the Hansen Yuncken team to finalise the solution of erecting the tower and control rooms above within a fully operating working port environment,
The concrete tower sections were of pre-cast concrete with the steel stairs within the tower acting as bracing. The two levels of control tower flooring were formed and poured on ground including the structural steel roof. These elements were then lifted into position using two 450-tonne mobile cranes, with the largest lift being 155 tonnes.
The final solution addressed all the issues and ensured the control tower was installed in a safe manner, utilising a unique and purpose-made solution.
This whole operation required a great amount of input, commitment and planning for it to be executed and carried out faultlessly.
