Behind an impressive heritage façade known as the Central Hotel lies Bega’s newest modern retail store.
The adaptive reuse of this historic building project was carried out by a local father-and-son building company who identified the redevelopment potential of this building and doggedly pursued the approval processes through the local council for five years.
The demolition, underpinning, excavation, formwork, polished concrete floor slabs, face brickwork, structural steelwork, tilt-up concrete wall panels and recycling of original building materials including cleaning approximately 60,000 bricks (90 per cent of the works) were all carried out by the owners and their three apprentices over a 20-month construction period.
The finished product is a credit to the small project team who achieved a high-quality, detailed building which highlights the attention to good old-fashioned safe building methods and techniques.
