This project located next to and connected to the Healthscope Private Hospital on the Nepean campus involved the expansion of the existing hospital facility over different stages. The first stage included developing a vacant portion of the site adjacent to the existing facility with on-grade car parking and construction of new hospital loading dock. The main works include the construction of a new 4x storey building which provides a new patient holding area, 4x operating theatres, new CSSD, 2x levels of consulting suites, staff facilities, as well as staged refurbishment of the existing recovery areas and back of house services for the new building. HPAC were engaged for an ECI to assist with the design development and worked closely with the consultant team to develop alternative design solutions identifying opportunities to reuse/refurbish existing infrastructure and services connections to contain costs achieving $1m of savings.  The Nepean Private hospital had been delivered to a high standard by HPAC. The internal finishes are ”work a day” much as expected for a private hospital but have been well put together. The main building is a stand-alone facility connected by two links over several floors to the existing private hospital. The design and delivery have utilised the gap between the two buildings to form courtyards and light wells creating amenity for both the existing building and new hospital facility. The construction techniques employed by HPAC were traditional. However, the feature continuous stainless-steel screen installed to the western façade is notable both in its design, installation and impact. It is supported off the concrete structure by external steelwork. The mesh was delivered to site in large diameter rolls and HPAC developed a system of attaching it at the top and then unfurling it, in separate panels, down the facade of the building.   The scope included the full building fit-out out and installation of complicated highly serviced FFE medical Equipment. The project was completed in a challenging environment and the result is a well finished quality building and a successful outcome for all stakeholders.
