Dangrove at Alexandria is a private art storage facility and operations centre owned by one of Australia’s foremost art collectors and benefactors.
The facility comprises 10,000m2 over two levels and includes specialist storage rooms, mock gallery spaces, art restoration workshops and a great hall for private display as well as offices and amenities.
The brief for the project was very demanding and required the storage facilities to safely house a major art collection for at least 100 years. Durability, longevity, fire, smoke protection, security and waterproofness have all been addressed to an exacting degree.
The form of the building is certainly unique and features a vast, light-filled exhibition hall that rises in a triangular shape nearly 30 metres high.
The building features an off white precast panelling façade and substantial glazing along the street frontage with twin-wall polycarbonate facades to the sides of the Great Hall, a ‘belt and braces’ solution to the potential for water leaks.
Everything about the building is unusual and Infinity is to be congratulated for completing this exacting project to an exceptional standard.
