The project comprised the upgrading of the Western Foyers and improving the access to the Sydney Opera House. The works involved the demolition and reconfiguring of major structural elements, the installation of a new passenger lift, two platform wheelchair lifts and escalators, new amenities, bars, kitchen and general fit out. All this work took place out of normal working hours to ensure performances and rehearsals were not interfered with and all within the confines of a world heritage building. The judges were impressed with the initiatives taken, not only to meet client requirements but those of providing alternative materials, work methods and construction techniques to ensure compatibility with the existing materials. Visitors we are sure will believe the work was part of the original works as they blend in and match perfectly.
