The project entailed the construction of the Special Operations Working Accommodation (SOWA) in the Tobruk Lines area of Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney, NSW. The project covered approximately 27 ha and included the provision of approximately 73 new and refurbished buildings and structures with a total floor area of over 56,000 m2. The scope included extensive ecologically controlled bush clearing and earthworks activities followed by the construction of training and lecture facilities, vehicle workshops, armouries, stores facilities, medical facilities, administration offices, vehicle shelters, an antenna farm, security facilities and a range of other special use buildings. Also included was some demolition and refurbishment work, redirection of
existing in-ground services, provision of new in-ground services, landscaping works and the provision of extensive road and pavement works throughout the precinct.
An intricate scheme of staging and decanting was implemented to ensure that operations of the affected defence units could continue without interruption throughout the project delivery period. The project staged over 2 years on a 30 ha site CO project with control over detailing to meet tight programme.
Basic design features and material selection adequate.
Major decanting, reestablishment and coordination required with Defence. No power on site, established temp generating plant, which is still in operation.
