The project involved a detailed design and construction over 3 stages of upgrade to the school. Stage 1 included a new student canteen, ablutions block and refurbishment of the staff hub. Stages 2 and 3 consisted of a new 2.5 level library (including multimedia and arts learning areas) and a joint use community facility, integrated with landscaping works in the adjoining public park. The project team worked with the school to enable Stage 3 to come online prior to Stage 2 works whilst the archaeological processes progressed. A significant construction challenge during excavation involved 13 archaeologists over a 22-week period uncovering more than 25 000 valuable artifacts. The impressive external facade is predominately glass, Barestne panels and metal banding. Internally extensive detailed bespoke finishes were applied with special attention required for the acoustic rating within the building. JOSS continuously collaborated with their design consultants and subcontractors to identify innovations and value for money initiatives that would contribute to the project's cost reduction and program efficiencies. This exceptional building truly encapsulates a win-win for the entire community providing spaces and functionalities for the school and general public.
