This project is an upgrade of the existing stage at Darling Harbour, to construct a new roof over the existing stage. The upgrade of the stage included the construction of a complex new steel and laminated glulam timber structure with a membrane roof. Substantial new foundations were required to support the cantilevered roof structure. The structure was propped during erection to support the perimeter steel ring frame. Tower crane frames were used for the props, to take the loads prior to completion of the remaining timber & steel framing. The Cantilevered structure infill is a web of cross laminated timber segments, of varying shapes and sizes. The props were removed after assembly of the roof structure, with the structure settling onto the primary supports. Additional works included extensive AV and refurbishment of the existing stage area. The project was extremely complex in design, logistics and construction methodology, Kane can be proud of their achievement.
