Moore College is a new seven storey building, including the habitable basement, built on one of Sydney’s busiest major roads. The building footprint is 95% of the site. Council restrictions severly limited management of plant and materials.
The building houses a basement library with a large rare book collection, tutorial rooms, and post graduate and faculty spaces. Staff and breakout spaces are also included. Levels 3-5 are commercial space.
Demolition was staged as internal turning areas and access needed to be created, asbestos was found and managed without impacting the program. Site excavation for the basement needed over excavation as the ramp could only be backfilled into the basement excavation on completion of the basement works. There was significant co-ordination and night works throughout the project.
This well designed and technically challenging building has been very well constructed and will serve Moore College well into the future.
