The major aspect of this project was a 5.5 metre deep excavation under the Town Hall, to allow construction of a new basement required to house essential services for the operation of the Town Hall.
Massive temporary steel trusses and underpinning works were installed to support the building prior to the excavation work commencing.
The excavation in-ground which was once part of Sydney’s first cemetery, was subject to comprehensive archaeological investigation.
The works also involved the unobtrusive installation of fire sprinklers and other services into the historic building. The work was completed in eighteen months.
