This Public Private Partnership project involved the design and construction and concurrent delivery of three (3) major individual yet connected world class public buildings on a brownfield, inner city site across some 20 hectares in Darling Harbour. Commencing on 9thDecember 2013 and completion on 19th September 2016.
The project has delivered Australia’s, largest exhibition venue, 9,000 seat theatre, extensive convention facilities including Australia’s largest ballroom, rooftop event deck, 826 car spaces, new boulevard and reinvigorated public space.
The scale and complexity of this huge project presented construction and logistical challengers to the design teams, site teams and relevant stakeholders with all facilities to be fully operational from day one.
The emphasis on innovation in design created opportunities particularly the development of the design around modular construction at the outset was to deliver production efficiencies, and the early Sub Contractor engagement yielded significant opportunities in adopting alternative solutions that would not incur time and cost penalties.
These three (3) state of the art large highly unique world class public buildings with a total of 200,000 m2 GFA were delivered to the highest quality by separate project teams working collaboratively, adopting innovations in design. Innovations in procurement and installation, and the size and scale of the steel structures required innovated solutions in fabrication and erection to ensure safe working conditions at extreme heights.
The entire Lend Lease Building team are to be congratulated for delivering this world class ground breaking project in an unprecedented time frame.
