The original Wallace Wurth Building was built in 1960s and is the main UNSW campus premises for the Faculty of Science.
Works included a 10,000 square metre extension and extensive refurbishment including an additional floor on the existing building and an enclosed atrium. Specialist laboratory fit out, upgrade of all services and a central energy plant upgrade formed part of the work. With the building remaining operational for the entire works, detailed traffic and pedestrian management were implemented. Vibration and noise were minimised to suit existing University sensitive equipment. Services to the existing areas also had to be maintained.
Site access was controlled by swipe access and turnstiles for safety and security.
Lifting systems were developed for the complex sun screening.
The building is impressive with the full height atrium forming an open and naturally lit link between the main buildings.
