The demolition of the original stadium and contouring of the land resulted in more than 90 per cent of the construction waste being diverted from landfill. Australian steel from South Australia was used for the construction, and fabricated by several local Western Sydney businesses. The steel is exposed alongside concrete and celebrated in its natural form. The roof of the new stadium contains 309 solar panels, generating 100kW of electricity for use in the stadium. The roof is also used to collect rainwater into a 260 kilo-litre storage tank for use in toilet flushing and landscaping. The project has reduced embodied carbon by 30 per cent, reduced energy by 15 per cent from baseline, and reduced potable water by 25 per cent, for improved sustainability.
