The project was a major civil exercise with major earthworks to remove hazardous materials, preparation of the site and modification of levels for the storm water overflow. Paving was extensive, water processing was complex, particularly for the rides, and recycling and environmental considerations were built into the works. Back of house was basic but efficient; the builder used demountables for accommodation of staff with excellent adaption. The rides were delivered ready for assembly by specialist teams. Footings were critical to the assembly and great care was taken with set outs, levels and footings. Wave pools and ancillary buildings were specially designed to suit the venue. Amenity and function buildings were well built. This is large site with a variety of buildings, rides and open areas, combined with the car park and overflow paths. Wet n’ Wild is a well coordinated, efficient example of recreation park construction.
The project was always required to be completed in an extremely short time frame. Hazardous materials discovered during the initial earthworks resulted in delays to the commencement of construction work. This resulted in work being delayed until January with completion locked in for the end of November to capture the summer / holiday period. This meant the works had to be completed in an extremely ambitious time frame that was achieved by the builder.
