The project involved the redevelopment of AMPOL’s two highway service centres at Pheasants Nest (Northbound and Southbound). With the existing centres needing to remain operational 24/7 during construction, careful staging was paramount. The project comprised two main stages being: Stage 1/2: Development of the new Northbound & Southbound highway service centres. Stage 3: Decommissioning of the existing centres, including removal of fuel tanks and infrastructure. The construction scope included bulk earthworks, in ground services, new structural steel buildings, internal amenities, food options, concrete and asphalt pavements, fuel canopies for light and heavy-duty vehicles, and external landscape and rest areas for holiday commuters and caravans. Mainbrace successfully completed the redevelopment of two highway service centres for AMPOL at Pheasants Nest, ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 operations. Meticulous staging and methodology preserved services, parking, and traffic flow throughout construction. Overcoming challenges such as sewer system relocation and environmental remediation, Mainbrace demonstrated innovative sustainability measures and community engagement, including solar power installations, EV charging stations, native landscaping, and consultation with local communities for memorial and cultural elements. Mainbrace’s comprehensive approach to construction, high standard finish, sustainability, and community integration merits this award and makes them a worthy winner.
