This dwelling has been constructed with a large amount of timber, for both structural and decorative use. The structural framing and cladding is made from PEFC certified timbers which ensures that the forests are sustainably managed, while providing a natural product with high durability. The upper level has vertical timber cladding with timber blade shade screens over the western windows. The lower level uses timber extensively for the window and door frames and lining. As the timber windows and doors are fitted with double glazing, they require larger framing elements that are complemented by the internal timber wall panels, timber ceilings, and timber lining to the ventilation void. Decorative use of timber in the entry foyer also acts as a privacy screen, and the ceiling of the staircase uses varying size slats for natural light whilst also providing shading from the late afternoon sun. Joinery elements such as the blackbutt stairs are recycled timbers, sawn and finished on site. Timber detailing has also been used in novelty nooks in the internal brick walls. The landscaping has extensive use of recycled railway sleepers, used for decorative walls, rustic fencing surrounding the pool, and fencing above the recessed loggia.
