The Badham Library has been an integral part of the University of Sydney for many years. Located on Science Road, the heritage-listed building has had many uses over time. The university’s goal for the project was to create a holistic student experience and to develop a vibrant community that supported teaching, learning and wellbeing needs of post-graduate coursework students.
The project comprised the stripping out and provision of new finishes including raised access floor for services reticulation, carpet and vinyl floor finishes, wall panelling, joinery and restoration of high-level ceilings, programmable lighting and new fixed and loose furniture.
Challenges included dealing with multiple stakeholders in the university and undiscovered issues within this 100-year-old building such as hazardous materials, structural limitations which required revised programming and access restrictions.
The work was well executed over an extremely tight time period.
