Multiplex was awarded the contract for the design finalisation and construction of the new Acute Services Building. The total developed floor area is approximately 89,000m2 of gross floor area.
Includes the construction of a new 14 storey Central Acute Services Building, purpose built for the management of severe injury or illness, urgent medical conditions, surgery recovery and other complex conditions. A six level Innovation Centre housing collaborative research and education training and a new civic plaza forecourt and main entrance constructed above a two-level basement.
The buildings integrate a number of services, including 2 emergency departments, 20 Digital Operating Rooms, 5 interventional laboratories, CT scanning room, MRI scanning room and medical imaging.
The construction involved a large concrete framed structure, installation of complex services, façade systems. The scope included full hospital fit-out including operating theatres and the procurement and installation of major medical equipment. 
The works had to be carefully integrated with the day-to-day hospital activities and the new building was constructed around a temporary link from the children’s hospital that had to be maintained at all times. 
The overall quality of finishes was high indicating a well-managed and supervised project worthy of this award.
