The Sargood began with this waterfront land at Collaroy being gifted to the Royal Alexandria Hospital for Children in 1920-22 for the treatment of children suffering tuberculosis and polio.  The Sargood Foundation is now a not-for-profit organization for the support of people with spinal cord injuries.
The building consists of a three storey building includes office and administration areas, occupational therapy and training rooms, lounge and multi-purpose active creational areas, domestic style kitchen and dining area, gymnasium and paved podium. There are also three separate single storey residential buildings containing seventeen accommodation units, each with a kitchenette. All the facilities are constructed and fitments installed that enable those with spinal cord injuries on the pathway to independence. The air conditioning and electrical systems are fully automated and fitments such as tables and benches are adjustable.
